The thesis describes contributions for optimizing packet processing in multicore network processors. In particular, a method for load balancing stateless traffic inside the processor cluster is introduced. Compared to the state of the art, loss rates as well as processing latencies are significantly reduced. Stateless packets can be processed by any processor inside the cluster. Nevertheless, in order to ensure a high connection quality, the original packet sequence of correlated packets must be maintained as far as possible. Since the introduced spraying mechanism cannot guarantee the packet sequence, an efficient hardware resequencing implementation was developed.
