The work describes the physical fundamentals of electric contacts and introduces the aging mechanisms of electric joints. It shows the results of experimental studies on the aging by creep of the conductor materials in aluminium busbar and overheadline joints under high current load. The development of the joint force is calculated based on the fundamentals of creep in metals. Out of it the development of the joint resistance, which is responsible for aging, is derived based on the theory of the contact of stochastically rough surfaces.
