On the basis of experimental studies, calculation methods have been derived to determine the micro-pitting and pitting durability. Firstly, these calculation methods allow with less input of the gear geometry and the operation conditions a conclusion on the probability of micro-pitting. Secondly, they calculate based on accurate knowledge of macro- and micro-geometry of the tooth, a precise consideration of micro-pitting on the tooth flank. Furthermore, they capture the effect of the micro-pitting on the pitting durability.
