In many cases a change or even a termination of the current agricultural land-use are necessary to fulfil the goals defined by river basin management. The aim of this thesis is the estimation of related economic consequences for the farms affected. The inevitable adaptations in some cases can lead to substantial losses for the farmers. The extent of economic consequences depends on the affected acreage, the kind of farm, the current land-use conditions, and the intended land-use. Sometimes agricultural alternatives which are compatible to the goals of river basin management can avoid the total retreat of farming. However, in most cases these alternatives are less profitable than arable farming.
