This dissertation studies the design and off-design of electricity generation with organic Rankine cycle systems recovering fluctuating waste heat from heavy industry. The potential for the German energy-intensive industry is assessed and methods for the optimal design and part-load operation of industrial organic Rankine cycle units are developed and demonstrated. A considerable improvement in economic performance is achieved by using the developed methods, thus increasing the competitiveness of the organic Rankine cycle technology and reducing the environmental impact of industrial processes.
