The modeling and parameter identification of permanent magnet synchronous machines are analyzed. Analytical expressions to model the nonlinear effects and the corresponding experimental identification are proposed, as well as a solution to the rank deficient problem for online parameter identification. An iron loss model, and a machine thermal model reduction approach are provided to finally introduce an online temperature and parameter estimation algorithm based on constrained optimization in conjunction with the thermal model.
