Experiments to evaluate the suitability of biomass as single fuel and co-combusted with coal were carried out in a 300 kW(th) cyclone slag tap furnace test facility. A description of the test facility and the experimental settings is presented. Experiments were carried out with straw using different loading and fuel shares. Stable flames, early ignition, high burnout, high ash capture rates in the furnace and relatively low emissions of SO2, NOx and CO were achieved.
