This thesis describes the development of retinal vessel diameters of 282 children as part of a school-based interventional study with respect to anthropometric data, cardiometabolic risk factors, hsCRP, and physical activity or inactivity, respectively. After 4 years, members of intervention group showed tighter retinal arterioles than members of control group; retinal venular diameters declined in both groups. Unfavorable progression of retinal vessel diameters was found to be associated with cardiometabolic risks and an increasing sedative activity.
