The choline uptake of LNCaP and PC3 cells was examined by in vitro studies varying uptake times, presence or absence of sodium, pH and inhibitors. The kinetic parameters of choline uptake were determined. Moreover, the choline uptake after irradiation at doses of 2 to 12 Gy was measured. LNCaP and PC3 cells express a high-affinity (according to the traditional classification), saturable choline transport system which shows a high choline uptake at physiologic choline concentrations. Irradiation influenced the clonogenic survival of the cells. The choline uptake was temporarily altered after irradiation, however, both cell lines reacted contrarily.
