The present study compared cardiac output measurement performed with an arterial pulse contour-based cardiac output measurement device (Vigileo Monitor and FloTrac sensor, software version 1.0.1, Edwards Lifesiences), which is a minimally invasive monitoring platform requiring no calibration, with the thermodilution technique, which is clinical standard. Thirty cardiac-surgical patients were investigated intra- and postoperatively. There was no correlation at any time-point between the results of both techniques. Based on these results, cardiac output measurement with this arterial pulse contour-based cardiac output measurement device cannot be recommended, at least not with the software version used in the present study.
