This is a cumulative dissertation comprising three original studies. Many BRCA mutation carriers elect to undergo intensive screening instead of prophylactic surgery to manage their cancer risk. The first two studies investigate lifestyle factors associated with breast cancer and cardiovascular risk in BRCA mutation carriers. The third study challenges the current approach to patient selection for managing women at high familial risk for breast cancer where no heritable mutation has been identified.     «
