- Abstract:
- Targeting inflammation in atherosclerosis with colchicine represents a novel therapeutical approach. The aim of this dissertation is to elucidate the biological basis of this beneficial effect. In this context, it was shown that colchicine treatment decreases vascular inflammation, and thus the progression of atherosclerosis, by reducing the uptake of inflammatory leukocytes into atherosclerotic plaques.

- Die anti-inflammatorische Therapie der Atherosklerose mit Colchicin repräsentiert eine neue Behandlungsstrategie. Das Ziel dieser Dissertation ist es, die biologischen Grundlagen dieses präventiven Effekts näher zu entschlüsseln. In diesem Zusammenhang konnte gezeigt werden, dass die Behandlung mit Colchicin die vaskuläre Entzündung und damit das Fortschreiten der Atherosklerose abschwächt, insbesondere durch verminderte Aufnahme von entzündlichen Leukozyten in atherosklerotische Plaques.
