The cost-effectiveness of machining high strength materials is limited by high production times and costs. Laser-assisted milling represents a method to enhance the productivity in comparison to conventional milling. Therefore, a simulation based process model of this hybrid process was developed and validated by experimental investigations. Also, a prototype system technology was built up. Finally, a cost-analysis showed that laser-assisted milling is an economic alternative to conventional milling.
