This thesis addresses the issue of plasma instabilities driven by alpha particles in the upcoming fusion reactor ITER. This work provides for the first time a predictive study of this interaction using a nonlinear global electromagnetic gyrokinetic model, including the interaction between multiple instabilities, and the resulting alpha particle transport. A hierarchy of models is used, with results shown also from the use of linear and perturbative models, where systematic scans can be performed.
