A topodiagnostic test battery was used to evaluate peripheral and central auditory performance with respect to age- and presbycusis-related changes. Impairment of multiple structures of the auditory pathway could be proven. In particular, further evidence of an independent central component of presbycusis could be provided. Additionally, current audiometric methods (DPOAE hearing threshold estimation, SUN-test, central auditory discrimination tests) were assessed in terms of reliability and feasibility.
