Transcutaneous left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO) provides an alternative to anticoagulation in the treatment of patients with atrial fibrillation. However, complications of the procedure such as thrombi on and leaks adjacent to the occlusion system can lead to ischemic events. While these device-associated complications, ischemic events, and major bleeding have been well studied in the period up to 12 months after intervention, there are no data to date after a longer period. In our study, we found by transesophageal echocardiography that device-associated complications also occur beyond twelve months after LAAO.
