Abstract:
In this study the potential of heat shock protein 70 (Hsp70) as a biomarker for inflammatory processes in multiple sclerosis (MS) was evaluated. For this purpose Hsp70 was quantified in samples of serum (n=177) and cerebrospinal fluid (n=87) of patients with MS and other neurological diseases using ELISA. The results were compared among each other and to a cohort of healthy donors (n=114). This study was the first to describe an association between MS and significantly elevated serum Hsp70 levels.
