The function of γδ T cells in EBV and infectious mononucleosis (IM) is still unclear. In this thesis, γδ T cells after IM were analysed by flow cytometry and correlated with clinical parameters. In the acute phase, δ1+, δ2+ and γδ+δ1-δ2- were activated. Their proportion was higher than in a healthy control group and continued to increase during the course of IM. Moreover, the proportion of γδ+δ1-δ2- T cells correlated inversely with the blood levels of liver enzymes (GPT, GOT). Further research is needed to clarify the mechanism behind this novel finding.
