This dissertation explores the design of a wind turbine to enhance its value from different perspectives. Four core topics are considered: First, the focus is given to design requirements and limitations of scaled models of different sizes. Next, the impact of uncertain inputs in design drivers is analyzed. Third, benefits brought by the adoption of lidar-assisted control are quantified. Finally, novel eco-conscious metrics are defined to guide the design of a wind turbine and increase its societal value.
