In my thesis, I functionalized FeAuNPs either with the Hsp70-specific, Tumor Penetrating Peptide TPP (TPP-PEG4-FeAuNPs) or a scrambled peptide as a control and compared the tumor targeting and uptake capacity of these nanoparticles into mHsp70 positive tumor cells. I demonstrated a superior uptake of TPP-functionalized FeAuNPs into mHsp70 positive mouse and human TNBC cell lines 4T1 (mouse) and MDA-MB-231 (human), respectively. Moreover, a significant radiosensitizing effect could be achieved after incubation (24 h) with TPP-functionalized FeAuNPs, but not with FeAuNPs functionalized with a non-specific scrambled peptide (NGL) or the non-conjugated FeAuNPs.
