In terms of cost-effectiveness, effort-saving and time-saving, the vision of this study was to determine cartilage thickness from conventional x-ray radiographs of the knee without MRI. In twelve patients, the whole-legged x-ray, necessary for surgical planning were compared with additional MRI examination of the knee cartilage. The direct comparison of these calculations with the joint gap measurement determined from the whole-legged x-rays showed no positive correlation at any knee compartment.
