The present in-vitro work was to review the surface condition of brand-new dental implants for structural changes after insertion, pursuant to producer information, into the jaw of swine. The study compared six implants from four different implant systems. One implant per tested group served as the reference implant and was not inserted. For a three-dimensional analysis of the implant surfaces, a confocal microscope was used. It is obvious that all three parameters Sa, Sz and Sdr show changes between the inserted implants and the reference implants, in particular in the apical region.
