This longitudinal prospective study observed nutrition, physical activity and lifestyle habits and their influence on bone changes in perimenopausal women. At 5 visits every 6 months, participants were questioned and had serum values drawn in the second half of the cycle to evaluate progesterone. At baseline (n=63) and after 24 months (n=53), trabecular bone density was measured by quantitative computer tomography (QCT). Bone loss and endogenous cortisol were higher in the upper quartile of physical activity, progesterone was lower.
