The impact of shared decision-making (SDM) on persistence and compliance in osteoporosis therapy was studied longitudinally for one year in 68 patients, using validated questionnaires and in 118 patients, analysing medical records retrospectively. SDM significantly increased the probability of patients beginning an antiosteoporotic drug (p=0,019). Persistence and compliance after SDM were higher than described for standard care. Also, SDM seems to have a positive effect on persistence in depressive patients with osteoporosis. This is the first study to describe this association.
