Within this work, a chemical and chemo-enzymatic synthesis for the preparation of cycloheptamycin, a compound active against propionibacterium acnes, and simplified derivates was developed. In the future, this synthesis will enable the investigation of structure-activity-relationships by designing new derivatives. Furthermore, a synthesis for the polyene intermediate of ikarugamycin biosynthesis was developed. This compound can now be used for the elucidation of the cyclisation mechanism catalyzed by the enzyme IkaB.
