Researchers have favored the Big Five and ignored motives when investigating individual differences in work outcomes. In this dissertation, I contributed to research and practice by concomitantly examining motives and the Big Five as correlates of work outcomes such as negotiation initiation and performance. Besides, I examined if the incongruence between implicit and explicit motives has negative effects on work outcomes such as burnout. Overall, I found that next to the Big Five, motives are important in predicting and motive incongruence is detrimental to work outcomes.
