Melanoma-Inhibitory-Activity (MIA) ist ein von malignen Melanomzellen sezerniertes Protein. Seine Bedeutung als möglicher Tumormarker des malignen Melanoms (MM) wurde unter Verwendung eines ELISA-Systems an 1361 Serumproben von 120 Patienten mit metastasiertem MM evaluiert. Bei einem Grenzwert von 9,8 ng/ml entsprechend der 97. Perzentile gesunder Probanden lag die Sensitivität von MIA im Stadium III bei 18,9 % und im Stadium IV bei 80,7 %. Die Spezifität war mit insgesamt 98,9 % sehr hoch. Ein MIA-Anstieg kann somit als Zeichen einer Metastasierung insbesondere von Fernmetastasen gewertet werden. Durch seine Korrelation mit der Tumormasse erwies sich MIA als geeigneter Parameter für das Therapiemonitoring. Zudem kann MIA der klinischen Manifestation von Fernmetastasen vorangehen und eine Prognoseverschlechterung des rezidivfreien Überlebens anzeigen.     «

MIA (Melanoma-Inhibitory-Activity) is a protein secreted from melanoma cells. In this work the use of MIA as a tumormarker for malignant melanoma (MM) has been evaluated. We measured 1361 serum samples from 120 melanoma patients during follow-up or undergoing therapy. Using a cut-off value of 9,8 ng/ml corresponding to the 97. perzentile in the serum of healthy donors we found sensitivities of 18,9 5 and 80,7 % in stage III and IV, respectively. Overall MIA showed a very high specifity of 98,9%. Therefore an increase of MIA could be regarded as a sign of new, mainly distant, metastases. The fact that MIA showed a correlation to tumor burden confirmed its value for monitoring course of disease. Additionally a rise of MIA can precede the clinical manifestation of metastases and therefore might be an indicator of a poorer prognosis.     «
