Power analysis is one of the key factors in the design flow for integrated circuits. In this context, the accurate estimation of prelayout wire capacitances is an important necessity, which has great impact on the accuracy of the power analysis. In this thesis, novel methodologies for the prognosis of wire capacitances are proposed. Different characteristics of routing layers as well as the typical behaviour of CAD tools for layout synthesis are considered. Individual wire-lengths and capacitances for each net in a design are calculated by the use of mathematical models and applied to power analysis.
