Photosynthetic organisms absorb light via pigments such as (bacterio)Chlorophylls ((b)Chls) and carotenoids (Cars). Cars absorb blue-green light only, while (b)Chls absorb both in the blue and the red spectral region. Due in part to technical challenges, the photophysical processes after blue light excitation have been less studied. Here, we describe an optical setup for ultrashort pulse generation in the blue-green spectral region. We investigate the energy transfer dynamics within Chl a and elucidate the detailed energy transfer dynamics following blue-light excitation.
