Ferroptosis is a new type of necrotic cell death associated with the deleterious destruction of cell membranes by iron-dependent lipid peroxidation. Recently, ferroptosis suppressor protein-1 (FSP1) has been discovered as the second ferroptosis surveillance system, which efficiently prevents lipid peroxidation independent of the glutathione/glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4) axis. In this study, I elucidated the molecular mechanisms of FSP1 function and unveiled the mechanism of action of its novel inhibitors.
