Photo-induced dearomatization reactions offer efficient access to complex molecules starting from abundant and inexpensive materials. Within this PhD work, the first enantioselective total synthesis of (+)-atlanticone C, employing a reaction cascade induced by an intramolecular ortho photocycloaddition as key step, is described. Furthermore, the arene photactivation of benzaldehyde derivatives through iminium ions was investigated. Yet unprecedented photo-induced reaction pathways were found and could be performed with visible-light irradiation.
