Abstract:

The oil distribution in combustion engines is essential for reaching the emission targets. The local amount of oil is measured with laser induced fluorescence (LIF) for a specific component and load matrix. The new developed extension for the Reynolds equation helps to reconstruct and interpret the results. It also helps to identify measurement errors. The developed extensions focus on cavitation in the trail areas and the oil coverage of the running surface of piston rings.
