Abstract:
Preservation of hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) is the main function of the bone marrow microenvironment. Therefore, we investigated the matricellular protein Cellular Communication Network factor 2 (Ccn2). Although, Ccn2 is dispensable at steady state, during irradiation stress osteoblastic Ccn2 seems to be necessary for the secretion of pro-inflammatory cytokines of the niche. Moreover, it is essential for a correct DNA repair mechanism during stress induced HSC proliferation.
