Selection of management techniques for effective sediment handling at the headworks of a hydropower is a challenging task. We utilize previous experiences, analytical methods, physical modelling and more recently the numerical modelling for this job. Each method has its own advantages and disadvantages. However, combinations of these methods may be utilized for better understanding of sediment transport in the reservoir. A case study of a hydropower project under construction is utilized to deduce the merging of the results of physical modelling and numerical modelling. In combining the results from the two tools, one can have a good estimate for selection of effective sediment management strategy.
