We explored the role of the CGRP/RAMP1 signalling in the development of liver fibrosis by using the global RAMP1 knockout mouse. Here, we demonstrate that expression of CGRP and its co-receptor RAMP1 is induced during CCl
4 induced fibrosis. Importantly, CGRP/RAMP1 signalling promotes collagen deposition in murine livers after CCl
4 administration, accelerating the process of fibrosis. Both, our
in vivo and
in vitro data suggest that CGRP/RAMP1 signalling positively regulates the activity of the Hippo pathway effector YAP, thus promoting HSC activation during liver fibrosis.
