Abstract:
A numerical wave channel for the simulation of realistic offshore conditions is presented. The methodology combines a nonlinear wave model with a Volume of Fluid calculation to generate an unsteady sea state. A simulation strategy that focuses on capturing wave-current interaction is introduced and is validated with respect to fluid particle kinematics. Finally, a case study is presented that evaluates the flow field of a nonlinear wave simulated in combination with a nonuniform current.
