The economic efficiency is a decisive factor in the realisation of biomass-fuelled heating plants. In many cases, cost considerations are therefore more important than the efficient dimensioning of the installed capacity. Plants with higher power output are often operated in real operation in a cyclic manner in order to cover a low heating load in combination with a heat accumulator. In such an operating mode, however, the furnace rarely reaches a stationary operating state. This leads to increased dust emissions and gaseous emissions. This behaviour can be examined in a long-term study with several heating plants. The aim of this project is to provide evidence of how strongly cyclic operation and increased emissions correlate in real plants. It is shown that the dust emissions are unfiltered at the starting of the plant and that the emissions correlation to the ember preservation mode in between operations must be considered in future legislation.
