Beside cardiomyocytes, non-myocyte cells are central players in cardiac homeostasis and disease. Single-cell RNA sequencing was used to elucidate a detailed transcriptional phenotype of cultured cardiac fibroblasts (CF), smooth muscle cells and endothelial cells and corresponding biopsy derived cells. In addition, cardiosphere-derived cells (CDC) also cultured from heart tissue, were analyzed to investigate their heterogeneity and age-related differences. Finally, paracrine effects of CDC- and CF- derived extracellular vesicles were evaluated.
