The Heat-shock protein 70 is overexpressed in the cytosol and membrane of different tumor entities and actively secreted into the blood. Within a phase II proof of concept study regarding NK cell-mediated tumor immunotherapy in NSCLC patients, potential correlations of Hsp70 with immune phenotypes and Hsp70 dynamics during therapy were investigated. Furthermore, Hsp70 was compared to the hypoxia-associated biomarker osteopontin. Hsp70 was confirmed as an inductor of NK cell-mediated tumor immunity and showed potential as an indicator of therapy response in NSCLC patients.
