The result of this dissertation is a process methodology for the planning of tugger train systems for the transport of heavy load carriers. It allows for a parallel configuration of technology and process details as well as the dimensioning and holistic assessment of tugger train systems. Based on experimental studies, a time module system to determine the cycle time and a method for the ergonomic evaluation of tugger trains are developed. The subcomponents are transferred into a software tool which allows for an iterative planning approach and supports an informed decision-making.
