The present disclosure relates to performing a simulation of an electric power distribution network in computationally efficient manner. A first mathematical model of the electric power distribution network is generated, and a simplified second mathematical model is then derived based on the first mathematical model, wherein the first and second models comply with a common rank approximation condition. A computationally efficient probabilistic simulation is performed by applying statistically distributed input values to the input ports of the second mathematical model. The corresponding output values are used for determining at least one input value corresponding to at least one predefined quantile.
