Often intensive care patients are haemodynamically kept under surveilance via intra-arterial Thermal Dilution Catheters. Catheters used, such as the PICCO-Catheter, often contain metallic components. To date it has not been clarified, whether catheters of this type need to be removed prior to MRI, in order to avoid a potential interaction of the generated magnetic field with the metals contained in the catheters. This study demonstrated that neither side effects by 20 patients investigated, nor any damage of the catheters caused by the MRI occured. Multicentre evaluations of an additional 128 medical investigations at 6 different hospitals, also did not show any side effects by patients.
