Infection with
Helicobacter pylori is one of the most prevalent infections worldwide. The pro-inflammatory cytokine IL-1b plays a crucial role in gastric cancer development. To be active IL 1b has to be cleaved by the inflammasome, an intracellular multiprotein complex. Different inflammasome types, bacterial virulence factors and molecular mechanisms regulate the H. pylori-induced IL-1b secretion. In vivo experiments showed that inflammasome activation influences bacterial clearing and H. pylori-induced inflammation.
