During the combustion of wood nitrogen oxides (NOx) are released out of fuel bound nitrogen. Thereby, the emissions rise with stoichiometry and temperature. The reduction factor HCN+NH3 / NO has major influence on NOx reduction, however wet chemical analysis of HCN and NH3 does not constitute a standardized measurement technique. When measuring HCN, flow rates during the probe extraction should be lower than 0.8 Nl/min. NOx emissions are reduced by 60 % with air staging, the reduction increases with longer residence times in the sub stoichiometric zone. The combination of air staging and ammonia injection is expected to further decrease the emissions.
