The shared decision-making model has so far primarily considered the role of the doctor’s behaviour. As part of a qualitative investigative approach in a psychiatric setting, behavioural patterns conducive to participation have now been identified on the part of the patients. In this area, it has been possible to define a total of seven thematic clusters of options for action and behaviour on the part of the patient. In a quantitative part of the study, a questionnaire instrument has been developed for recording the actual willingness to use these options.
