Am Lehrstuhl für Informatikanwendungen in der Medizin und Augmented Reality von Prof. Dr. Nassir Navab wird an Technologien geforscht, die helfen die Qualität medizinischer Eingriffe zu verbessern. Der Lehrstuhl versteht sich dabei als ein starkes Bindeglied zwischen der Medizin und der Informatik.

ENGLISH VERSION: Research at Chair of Prof. Nassir Navab focuses on computer-aided medical procedures and augmented reality. The work involves developing technologies to improve the quality of medical intervention and bridges the gap between medicine and computer science.
Clockwise from top left: The video image of the surgery is augmented with a 3D model of the radioisotope labeld sentinel lymph node.
On the patients' left chest a reference structure determines his position in the camera image. In the foreground a gamma probe is used to map the sentinel lymph node by detecting radiation emitted by the injected radioisotope. This data is used for reconstruction and then visualized in real time in the video image on the computer screen. The position of gamma detector relative to the patient is determined with an additional reference structure.
