This retrospective study investigates occurrence of cervical metastasis in 60 patients with maxillary oral squamous cell carcinoma in order to clarify the question whether neck dissection should be carried out in these patients or not. A consideral number (25%, 16,7 % occult) of cervical metastasis were found especially on ipsilateral Level II und III. Tumor thickness and tumor localization were identified as predictive factors for cervical metastases. Accordingly, the present result do not justify omittance of ipsilateral elective Neck Dissection in maxillary oral squamous cell carcinoma patients.
