Even though the way of driving has got a decisive impact on fuel consumption, very few driv-ers maintain a fuel-efficient driving behavior. Raising the question which aspects justify such a behavior and what steps can be taken to achieve a more efficient driving style, a causal analysis is conducted in a first step. Afterwards, the motivational conditions are presented that lead to the usage of conventional assistance systems. It is shown by which means gami-fication is influencing these conditions. Following this reasoning, a gamification concept is introduced which enriches driving with challenging tasks. The driver’s attempt to master these challenges will lead to a change in his way of driving.
