The medicine historical thesis focuses on the introduction of nosodes and sarcodes (homoeopathic remedies made of disease products respectively organ preparations) into homoeopathic materia medica and their further development in the first half of the 19th century. On the basis of qualitative and quantitative analyses of original sources, the practices and underlying therapeutical conceptions of the main representatives of nosode and sarcode therapy are reconstructed. Moreover, the practical application of these preparations by 19th century homoeopaths is described. By contextualising the findings with general tendencies of pharmaceutical drug development, the thesis contributes to the European history of medicine of the 19th century.
