This thesis extend the knowledge about the polar intermetallic compounds of the systems

Tt (
Ae: Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba,
T: Ni, Co;
Tt: Si, Ge, Sn). A series of binary and ternary phases was discovered. The synthesized compounds were structurally characterized by powder and single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Further analyses, such as Differential Thermal Analysis (DTA) and magnetic measurements testing for superconducting behavior, were carried out. Computational studies concerning the electronic structures were performed and the chemical bonding situation was discussed on the basis of the Density Of States (DOS) curves, band structures including fatbands, Crystal Orbital Hamilton Populations (COHP), Electron Localization Function (ELF) and Bader’s Atoms in Molecules (AIM).
